Ray Everett is Principal Consultant and Director of Product for Compliance Solutions for TrustArc (formerly known as TRUSTe).
As a leading figure in the fields of privacy law and policy, online advertising, and email marketing for two decades, Ray Everett brings an unparalleled depth and breadth of experience in privacy risk management to the modern enterprise. In both in-house and consulting roles, Ray has built world-class privacy programs for more than two dozen Fortune 500/Global 2000 corporations in a wide range of sectors, leveraging best-of-breed risk management techniques drawn from a history of tackling diverse compliance challenges.

Called the “dean of corporate privacy officers” by Inter@ctive Week Magazine for his appointment as the first Internet-era corporate Chief Privacy Officer in 1999, Ray was a founding board member of the organization now known as International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and remains a frequent presenter and educator on privacy risk management topics. He contributed to the creation of the industry’s first certification program, the Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), which has been recognized as an industry standard by ISO.

In 1997 he was profiled as a leading proponent of ethical Internet commerce by the New York Times Online, and in 2014 he was recognized by Business Insider as being among “The 30 Most Influential LGBT Leaders in Tech.” Ray was a co-author of Internet Privacy for Dummies and Fighting Spam for Dummies, columnist for JupiterMedia’s eSecurityPlanet and Datamation (2004-2009), and contributor to a nationally syndicated radio show (2001-2006). He holds a Juris Doctor from George Washington University School of Law.
