John Tang represents companies, directors, and officers in shareholder litigation, internal investigations, and SEC enforcement matters. He also counsels clients regarding corporate governance, 10b5-1 trading plans, and D&O insurance. Prior to joining Jones Day in 2012, John was co-chair of the securities litigation group at an international law firm, where he also served as firmwide chair of recruiting. He was previously based in Silicon Valley and has represented public and private companies across a range of industries.

John’s experience includes matters involving Chinese companies and China-based operations of multinational corporations. Prior to joining Jones Day, he was a key member of the team that defended LDK Solar, then the world’s largest manufacturer of solar wafers, in a U.S. securities class action and derivative suit that were resolved on favorable terms. Since joining the Firm, John has represented a Chinese company’s audit committee in internal investigations, defended a Chinese company in a U.S. securities class action, and conducted a FCPA compliance review of a multinational’s China operations. Before law school, he worked for two years in Hong Kong.

John is a frequent speaker on a variety of securities litigation and enforcement topics. He is also a former director and former board president of the Asian Law Alliance, a San Jose-based nonprofit organization that provides legal services, community education, and advocacy programs to the Asian Pacific Islander community in Silicon Valley.
