Eric L. Johnson is a Tax Partner at Deloitte Tax LLP in Chicago. His career in public accounting has been focused on serving ultra-high net worth individuals, family groups, family offices, private trust companies, and closely-held business owners on tax and financial matters.

Eric serves as the National Competency Leader for Deloitte’s Estate, Gift, Trust and Charitable Competency Group and co-chairs the Chicago office Strategic Wealth Planning Team. In his role, he frequently lectures at venues both inside and outside the firm and has been published in several leading tax publications.

Eric is also the Vice Chair of the AICPA Trust, Estate, and Gift Tax Technical Resource Panel (TRP). The TRP acts as the primary representative for the AICPA before Congress, Treasury and the IRS on legislative and regulatory matters in the Estate, Gift, and Trust tax areas. In addition, Eric serves as the Chair of the Family Office Task Force and the Chair of the Decanting Task Force for the AICPA. He is a former member of the ICPAS Taxation – Estate, Gift, and Trust Committee.

Eric is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Illinois Certified Public Accountant Society (ICPAS), and the Chicago Estate Planning Council (CEPC).

Specialties: Family wealth planning for ultra-high net worth family groups, which includes estate taxation, post-mortem planning, gift and generation-skipping transfer taxation, trust taxation, individual income taxation, and partnership taxation.
