About Elizabeth Anne Smith

Elizabeth Anne Smith, PhD MBA, Fzata Chief Business Officer.
Dr. Smith’s career is centered on driving therapeutic innovations to patients. Over the past 25 years she has led effective teamwork among scientists, entrepreneurs, and legal teams, increasing biotech enterprise value. With her assistance, dozens of biopharma companies have collectively raised over $50MM in non-dilutive funding and closed licensing as well as partnership deals.

From 2013-2021 Dr. Smith was CEO at SoMax Consulting. She supported biotech startup CEOs across the Maryland life science incubator system and university spin-outs. Prior to SoMax, Dr. Smith was Associate Director of Technology Search and Development at Celsion, an oncology therapeutics company.

Dr. Smith earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Chicago (1999) and an MBA from University of Chicago Booth School of Business (2006).
