Doug Rutherford co-founded the structured finance law boutique of Rutherford & Bechtold LLC in December, 2009. He is engaged in complex lending, structured finance/securitization, derivatives and other areas of practice relating to investment management and the treasury function. Doug has over twenty-five years of structured finance experience, representing commercial and investment banks, borrowers, mutual funds, hedge funds, pension trust advisors, finance and leasing companies, insurance companies and issuers. Before founding R&B, he co-managed the structured finance and derivatives practices at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and, before that, at Faegre & Benson LLP. Prior to joining Faegre, he served as head of Mayer Brown’s London-based European securitization team and had previously practiced in that firm’s Chicago, Washington and Tokyo offices.
Mr. Rutherford received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Carleton College in 1980, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. in 1983 from New York University School of Law. Mr. Rutherford serves on various industry committees including the Structured Finance Committee of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section. He is also the co-author of Chapter 6, “Uniform Commercial Code”, in the leading treatise Securitization of Financial Assets (Wolters Kluwer Law and Business).
