Investing in an IPO is something many people have thought of and even tried. Many investors, however, have been disappointed when they have been unable to “get into” the IPO. What’s more, many IPOs do not do all that well. Venture Capital (and its “younger cousin,” angel investing) are terms that describe investments that are made long before an IPO. If you are an accredited investor (that is, you earn more than $200,000 ($300,000 if married) a year or who have at least $1 million in assets (not including the equity they have in their home), you should know enough about VC and Angel Investing, even if only to make an informed decision that they are not for you.
