Nelson C. Bellido is the partner in charge of the Miami office of Roig Lawyers. His main areas of practice are in complex commercial litigation, insurance defense litigation, insurance fraud special investigations, finance law, products liability and shareholder and partnership disputes.
Nelson represents clients on a national and international scale in a range of commercial and insurance litigation issues including banking litigation, financial fraud, lender liability, insurance fraud, insurance coverage disputes, bad faith and extra contractual issues, premises liability, real estate liability, construction litigation, asset recovery, business torts like breach of contract, shipping and trade disputes, and creation of corporate documents. He has experience litigating cases in state and federal court as well as arbitration proceedings.
Nelson has successfully defended Fortune 500 companies in trial matters involving premises liability, products liability, warranty claims, fraud and breach of contract. He serves companies in industries involving insurance, retail, finance, chemical, petroleum, technology and other service providers in the preparation of business contracts and litigation matters.
Nelson has been recognized as a leader in his profession. Most recently in July 2017, Nelson was chosen to speak by the Dade County Bar Association in a conference showcasing the Superstars of Trial in South Florida.
Nelson has spoken on an array of legal topics. In February of 2016, Nelson was a guest lecturer at Duke University, where he spoke on the topic entitled “Diversity & Ethics in the Legal Profession: The Changing Cultural Landscape and Role of Higher Education.”
Nelson was also a speaker at the South Florida Daily Business Review Corporate Counsel Summit on November 14, 2014, where he spoke on “Contract & Consequence: Business Contracts and the Impact of Litigation on Corporate Counsel.”
Since 2010, Nelson has spoken frequently for the U.S. Commercial Service District Export Council’s Export University on shipping and trade laws impacting exports.
Nelson has also published an extensive annotated commercial lease as part of a useful collection of form documents for the American Bar Association entitled, “The In-House Counsel’s Essential Tool Kit,” related to corporate governance, compliance, general business contracts, employment, IP and litigation. The complete series is intended to provide guideposts and is filled with general advice, practical tips and ideas for training in-house counsel, in addition to many annotated forms.
In 2010, Nelson was appointed by the Chief Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit for Miami-Dade County to the County Commission on Ethics and Public Trust and reappointed for another 4-year term in 2014.
Nelson is a former Assistant State Attorney with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office where he served our community from 1993 to 1997. He also served as an adjunct Business Law Professor at Florida Memorial College in Miami, Florida from 1997 to 1999.
