Laura Shroyer Liss is a partner in the Employment and Litigation Practice Groups. Her practice includes all aspects of employment law, including litigation in state, federal and appellate courts and before administrative agencies, as well as commercial litigation. She is experienced in class action and multi-party litigation, as well as appellate work, having drafted appellate briefs and argued before the Illinois Appellate Court and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. She has experience with discrimination and termination claims, unfair labor practice charges, collective bargaining and interest arbitrations. She frequently counsels clients on employment issues related to the evaluation and discipline of employees, discrimination and harassment, employee policies and handbooks, non-competition, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements, and wage and hour claims.
In 2005 Law Bulletin Publishing selected Ms. Liss as one of “40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch.” Ms. Liss was selected to the 2010 and 2012-2016 Illinois Super Lawyers lists in the area of employment and labor law. In addition, Ms. Liss was selected to the 2008 and 2009 Illinois Super Lawyers-Rising Star lists.
Ms. Liss received a B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1992. She received her J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1995, where she was named to the Dean’s List, received an Am Jur Award for Trial Advocacy II and served as a legal writing teaching assistant. She is admitted to: the Illinois Bar; the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit; the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois; and the U.S. Federal Trial Bar.
Ms. Liss serves as a Board and Executive Committee Member of Working in Schools (WITS), an innovative tutoring and mentoring program to support the education and development of children in the Chicago Public Schools. She also is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Labor and Employment and Federal Civil Practice Committees, and the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys.
Prior to joining PFS, she was with the Chicago office of Michael Best & Friedrich, where she served as a partner in the Labor and Employment Relations Practice Group, Co-Chair of the Class Action/MDL Team and a member of the Trade Secret Protection and Non-Competition Team. She also previously was an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago and a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney.
