Kristin Garris

Kristin Garris focuses on trademark and copyright litigation, enforcement, and counseling for Tannenbaum Helpern Syracuse & Hirschtritt LLP. She counsels brand owners across a broad spectrum of industries on trademark, trade dress, and copyright enforcement and protection issues; Internet and social media issues; and trademark licensing. Kristin has created and managed comprehensive international trademark and copyright Internet policing and enforcement programs for clients, and also managed trademark portfolios and advised clients on the clearance of marks and registration procedures and strategies. She has significant experience with trademark proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has helped clients resolve intellectual property matters in federal court proceedings, in arbitration, and through creative and practical settlements outside the courtroom.

With extensive experience in Internet enforcement and domain name disputes, Kristin has helped recover hundreds of domain names for clients through various methods. She has assisted clients with trademark and copyright enforcement in connection with social media platforms, including crisis management. A skilled negotiator, Kristin has negotiated and drafted license agreements and IP provisions in asset purchase agreements and other commercial contracts, and has helped guide clients through successful arbitration proceedings concerning license disputes. She has conducted IP due diligence on trademark, copyright, and domain name issues in corporate transactions.

Kristin has also provided significant pro bono volunteer work over the past 9 years. She was a recipient of multiple awards for pro bono work, including the 2015 Commitment to Justice for Outstanding Legal Team award presented by Her Justice, Inc. An engaging speaker on intellectual property topics, Kristin currently serves on the board of the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics Alumni Association, and is a co-chair of the Fashion Law Committee of the Entertainment, Arts, and Sports Law section of the New York State Bar Association.
