Dave Freedman has worked as a journalist since 1978, primarily in the fields of law, business (particularly finance, marketing, and HR), and personal finance. From 1978 to 1999, he served on the editorial staffs of consumer, business, professional, and trade periodicals. As a freelance journalist since 1999, he has authored feature articles for dozens of national and local magazines, newsletters, newspapers, and online media. He has also written extensively about real estate, economics, consumerism, woodworking, social media, and other topics.

Dave’s current editorial projects include:

  • Equity Crowdfunding for Investors, a book to be published in 2014 by Wiley & Sons. Dave is coauthoring the book with Matthew R. Nutting (Fresno, CA).
  • The Value Examiner, a bimonthly journal published by NACVA. The Examiner focuses on business valuation and forensic accounting. Dave has served on the editorial staff since 2005.
  • Phoenix Capital Investments (, an independent investment bank in NY City. Dave led the team that developed the company’s website, launched in September 2013.
  • Accredited Investor Markets (, which provides education for investors in PE, VC, hedge funds, tangible assets, and pre-IPO shares. Dave led the team that developed the AIMkts website, and is a contributing writer.


Dave has been involved in four successful non-fiction book projects:

Dave coauthored Death of an American (Continuum, NY, 1983). The book is based on the $100 million Singer vs. Wadman civil rights lawsuit filed in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1979.

He wrote Box-Making Basics, a woodworking book (Taunton Press, Newtown, CT, 1997), which has sold over 73,600 copies.

Dave edited Information Nation: Seven Keys to Information Management Compliance, by Randolph Kahn, attorney, and Barclay Blair, management consultant (AIIM, 2004).

Dave wrote Chapter 45, on marketing communications, of the book Flying Solo: A Survival Guide for the Solo and Small Firm Lawyer, Fourth Edition (ABA, 2005).

Dave has received awards for magazine feature writing, financial magazine editing, website content, newsletter writing, legal journalism, and media relations. More importantly, he won a Golden Glove Award from the Rodale Press softball team (1999) and first prize in the Big Wheel Model Car Contest (1964).

Dave has served on the faculty of non-fiction writing workshops, including the SEAK workshop for lawyers.
